Azarenka, the two-time Grand Slam champion, will now face Yulia Putintseva of Kazakhstan in the quarter-finals, after the Kazakh player defeated Ukraine’s Anhelina Kalinina. Garcia, who had previously beaten four-time major champion Naomi Osaka, will take on American Danielle Collins for a place in the semi-finals.
In other results, world number four Elena Rybakina of Kazakhstan progressed to the last eight with a 6-3 7-5 win over American Madison Keys, setting up a meeting with Greek eighth seed Maria Sakkari. Fifth-seed Jessica Pegula of the United States also advanced to the quarter-finals with a 7-6 6-3 victory over Emma Navarro, and will face Alexandrova.
Despite the disappointment for Boulter, the British bbc tennis player had made it to the fourth round of the Miami Open for the first time in her career, defeating Brazil’s Beatriz Haddad Maia in the previous round. However, the experienced Azarenka proved too strong on the day, clinching a tight first set before running away with the second.
