Top Seed Swiatek Cruises to Madrid Open Quarter-Finals

In a dominant display, world number one Iga Swiatek breezed through to the quarter-finals of the prestigious Madrid Open. The top-seeded Polish player overcame Spain’s Sara Sorribes Tormo in straight sets, securing a convincing 6-1, 6-0 victory in just 68 minutes.

Despite being broken in the very first game, Swiatek quickly regained control, winning the next 12 games in a row to seal the win. The 22-year-old’s powerful and consistent performance proved too much for her Spanish opponent, as she booked her place in the last eight.

Swiatek’s next opponent will be 11th seed Beatriz Haddad Maia of Brazil, who defeated fifth seed Maria Sakkari of Greece in straight sets, 6-4, 6-4.

Notable Result

In another notable result, eighth-seeded Tunisian player Ons Jabeur also progressed to the quarter-finals with a comfortable 6-0, 6-4 victory over ninth seed Jelena Ostapenko of Latvia.
