Reigning Madrid Open Champion Carlos Alcaraz Dominates Straight-Set Victory

Alcaraz Cruises to Last 16 in Madrid

Carlos Alcaraz, the world number three and second seed, effortlessly secured his spot in the Madrid Open’s last 16, cruising past Brazil’s Thiago Seyboth Wild in straight sets. The young Spanish prodigy maintained his dominance on the Madrid clay, winning 6-3, 6-3 in just 75 minutes.

Despite sporting a compression sleeve on his right arm as a precautionary measure following a recent injury that forced his withdrawal from the Barcelona Open, Alcaraz showed no signs of discomfort throughout the match. He broke his opponent’s serve twice in each set, racing to a commanding 5-0 lead in the second before Seyboth Wild managed a late break.

“Today was the test of fire, no discomfort, feeling spectacular,” Alcaraz said after the match. “From here, we’ll be getting better.”

Alcaraz, who won the Madrid Open in 2022 and 2023, holds the highest win percentage at this ATP-1000 event since the format was introduced in 1990, with a remarkable 93.3% record (minimum 10 matches played).

Alcaraz to Face Struff in Last 16

The defending champion will face Germany’s 23rd seed Jan-Lennard Struff in the last 16, a rematch of the 2023 final. Struff, fresh off his victory at the BMW Open in Munich, defeated French 13th seed Ugo Humbert 7-5, 6-4 to advance.
