Tennis Legend Djokovic Advances to Monte Carlo Masters Semi-Finals

World number one Tennis Player Novak Djokovic took a step closer to his first Monte Carlo Masters title since 2015 by defeating Australian Alex de Minaur in the quarter-finals. The 36-year-old Tennis Legend edged a closely contested second set, which saw seven breaks of serve, to seal a 7-5 6-4 victory.

Djokovic’s triumph marked his 77th semi-final appearance in an ATP 1000 event, surpassing the record held by Tennis Legend Rafael Nadal. The Serb will now face either Norwegian eighth seed Casper Ruud or Frenchman Ugo Humbert for a place in the Tennis Tournament final.

In another semi-final matchup, Italian second seed Jannik Sinner overcame Holger Rune 6-4 6-7 (6-8) 6-3 to set up a clash against Greek 12th seed Stefanos Tsitsipas, a two-time Monte Carlo champion, who defeated Russian Karen Khachanov 6-4 6-2.

“Despite acknowledging that he is not yet performing at his ‘top level,’ the 24-time Grand Slam champion Djokovic is yet to lose a set on his way to his first Monte Carlo Tennis Serve semi-final since his last of two titles in 2015.”

In defeating De Minaur, the 37-year-old Djokovic became the oldest semi-finalist in the Monte Carlo Tennis Tournament’s history.
