Tennis Legend Novak Djokovic Avenges Monte Carlo Defeat, Advances to Quarter-Finals

(Monte Carlo, April 13th) – World number one Novak Djokovic (Tennis) made a strong comeback at the Monte Carlo Masters, defeating Italy’s Lorenzo Musetti in straight sets 7-5, 6-3 to advance to the quarter-finals.

Djokovic, the two-time champion at this event, was seeking revenge after being defeated by Musetti in the last-16 stage of last year’s Monte Carlo Masters. The Serbian Tennis Legend overcame a break of serve in the opening set, winning five of the last six games to turn the tide and claim the set.

Despite losing serve twice after going up a break in the second set, Djokovic was able to regain control and serve out the match to love, securing his place in the quarter-finals. This marks the 10th time Djokovic has reached the last eight at the Monte Carlo Masters in the Open era, becoming only the second player to achieve this feat.

“I don’t think I am still at my top level, but it was a great test today against a great player, a very talented player,” Djokovic said after the match.

Djokovic will now face Australia’s Alex de Minaur in the quarter-finals, as he looks to reach his first semi-final at the tournament since his last title victory nine years ago.
