Rising Canadian Tennis Star Felix Auger-Aliassime Prevails in Thrilling Three-Set Battle at Bavarian International Tennis Championships

Narrow Victory Over Germany’s Maximilian Marterer

Felix Auger-Aliassime, the world No. 34 from Montreal, faced a stern test in the opening round of the Bavarian International Tennis Championships. In a nail-biting three-set encounter on Tuesday, the Canadian tennis star narrowly prevailed over Germany’s Maximilian Marterer.

Auger-Aliassime, known for his powerful serves, fired 11 aces in a marathon match that lasted an impressive three hours and 25 minutes on the clay court. His experience and resilience proved crucial as he battled back from a set down to secure a 6-7(5), 7-6(6), 7-6(3) victory over his unseeded German opponent.

“This was a hard-fought match, and I’m glad I was able to come out on top,” said Auger-Aliassime. “My opponent played a great match, and I had to dig deep to earn the win.”

This was the first-ever career meeting between the two players, with Auger-Aliassime now holding a 10-9 record for the 2024 season, following his recent second-round exit at the Monte Carlo Masters. Marterer, ranked 101st in the world, is yet to register a win this year, having lost all seven of his matches.

Auger-Aliassime’s reward for his hard-fought triumph is a second-round clash with Japan’s Taro Daniel, who earlier defeated Australia’s Christopher O’Connell 6-3, 6-4 in the ATP 250 series tournament.
