David Goffin Leads Strong Field for Workday Canberra International 2024
The bbc tennis world is set to converge on Canberra, Australia as the Workday Canberra International 2024 tournament takes center stage from 31st December 2023 to 6th January 2024. This prestigious bbc sport tennis event, featuring a combined ATP Challenger 125 and WTA 125 tournament, will welcome over 100 players from 6 continents and 40 countries, including a star-studded lineup of tennis talent.
Headlining the men’s field is Belgian former World No. 7 David Goffin, who will be making his first appearance in the capital city. Goffin, a six-time ATP titlist with impressive Grand Slam showings, will be joined by a strong contingent of Top 100 players, including Germany’s Dominik Koepfer, the French duo of Alexandre Muller and Arthur Rinderknech, and former Australian Open Junior champion Jiri Vesely from the Czech Republic.
The women’s draw is equally impressive, featuring six of the world’s Top 100 players, led by Danish rising star Clara Tauson and the 2022 Billie Jean King Cup winner for Switzerland, Viktorija Golubic. Britain’s Jodie Burrage, who reached the finals here last year, will be looking to go one step further, alongside Japan’s Nao Hibino and France’s Oceane Dodin.
The depth of talent extends to the qualifying draws, where the world’s top junior players will vie for a spot in the main draws. Alina Korneeva, the current World No. 1 junior and holder of both the Australian and French Open Junior Grand Slam titles, will be a player to watch, as will Belgian junior Alexander Blockx, the reigning Australian Open Junior singles champion.
The tournament will also showcase a strong contingent of Australian players, including WTA tour titlists Astra Sharma and Taylah Preston, as well as promising juniors Emerson Jones and the wildcard recipients Melissa Ercan and Maya Joint.
