Montreal’s Felix Auger-Aliassime Advances to Quarterfinals in Bavarian International Tennis Championships

Felix Auger-Aliassime, a rising star in the Tennis world, advanced to the quarterfinals of the prestigious Bavarian International Tennis Championships on Thursday with a commanding 6-3, 6-2 victory over Japan’s Taro Daniel.

The fifth-seeded Auger-Aliassime, known for his powerful serves and court coverage, won an impressive 80 percent of his first serve points, including nine aces, and converted all four of his break point opportunities during the match. In contrast, his opponent Daniel struggled on serve, winning just 49 percent of his first serve points and failing to record a single ace.

The match, which took just over 84 minutes to complete, was a marked improvement from Auger-Aliassime’s grueling three-hour, 25-minute first-round triumph over Germany’s Maximillian Marterer earlier in the week.

In the quarterfinals, the talented Canadian will face off against fourth-seed Jan-Lennard Struff of Germany, who advanced with a 7-6 (0), 6-4 win over Botic van de Zandschulp of the Netherlands. Auger-Aliassime holds a 2-1 career advantage over Struff, including victories in their last two meetings.

This quarterfinal berth marks the first time Auger-Aliassime has won two matches at a tournament since his triumph over Harold Mayot in the quarterfinals at Montpelier, France, on February 2. The young Tennis legend will be looking to continue his impressive run and potentially claim his first ATP title of the season in Munich.
